Accelerated Nursing Programs

The medical industry is growing by leaps and bounds. With increasing population it is not a bad idea to pursue a profession in medicine. That is why today, a large number of people are pursuing nursing as the prospects of making a blooming career out of it is very high. However, due to constraints in time, you may not want to enroll in a full-fledged nursing course. If that is the case, there is good news for you. You can get into an accelerated nursing program. As the name suggests, this program allows you to complete the entire nursing program within a stipulated time which is generally less than the time taken to complete the same in a conventional nursing course.

However, that should not give you the impression that an accelerated nursing program is conducted online always since it is accelerated. Some of these programs are conducted in more traditional colleges and schools in a sped up format. However, you must remember that these accelerated programs are pretty rigorous. Whereas a conventional nursing program would longer to complete while an accelerated program would generally allow you to complete it in a much quicker time frame. Thus, it goes without saying that you need to be mentally prepared to accept workload that comes with this type of a program.

If you wish to apply to these accelerated nursing programs, you need to have at least a Bachelor’s degree in any field of study. If you are already a nurse with an associates nursing degree, you can opt for the more advanced accelerated courses like the accelerated BSN programs. However, having said that, some of these programs only accept students who had biology as a subject at the secondary level.

You may wish to look at nearby schools first. There is a host of opportunities that you can avail after you have finished. For example, if you have completed an accelerated BSN nursing program, you can take national tests for state-specific licenses. Once you obtain the license, you become eligible to begin your entry-level practice as a registered nurse. If you have done accelerated MSN program, you may be able to choose from many career options such as nurse anesthetist, clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner and nurse midwife.
